We spent the morning at the Monterey Bay Aquarium on a very gusty, windy day.
The special exhibit was "The Secret Lives of Seahorses"
These ribbon pipehorses are masters of camouflage
The Pacific sea horse is the only species found along the coast of California
The leafy sea dragons are the most unusual. They look more like plants than animals.

These potbelly seahorses are well hidden in the coral
And the permanent jellyfish display at the aquarium is always gorgeous.
So graceful
and colorful!
Feeding time in the Outer Bay million gallon tank. The clouds of sardines flow and regroup constantly.
The big tunas here are only fed 4 times a week. Here the mahi mahi at the top are racing to eat before it is all gone.
Lunch indoor in the aquarium restaurant was welcome out of the wind.
8 of us from the Stanford Women's Club Travel Group were given a private tour of the Stanford Hopkins Marine Station in the afternoon. (Barbara Ward, Debby Baldwin, Jim Ferguson, Cam Ward, Betsy Ferguson, Ken Doty, Connie Doty, Judy Olson)
This building is the extensive library maintained there. The tile roof is reminiscent of campus.
And the view from the library reading room towards Lovers Point in Pacific Grove would be hard to beat.
Dr. Joe Wible, the Assistant to the Director and Head Librarian and Bibliographer, spent 2 1/2 hours with us sharing his enthusiasm for this facility!

One of the several private beaches at the Station. Today sea lions with new pups are resting to get out of the wind. The Monterey Bay Aquarium in at upper right.

This is the "tuna treadmill". As they swim in this circular tank their body temperatures and metabolisms are tracked.
We stayed two nights at the Asilomar State Park Conference Center. Many of the buildings here were originally designed by Julia Morgen--in a lovely natural setting right on the dunes. This view is from the deck of our room looking toward the beach.
Boardwalks enable us to explore the dunes and walk along the beach.
