Wed, 19 Apr 2006 5,000 ideas and thousands of votes later, the inaugural PetSafe Idea Fetch pet product invention contest finishes. The winning pet invention, The MicroID Collar, developed by Jonathan Warren, will provide a way for pet lovers to place an electronic journal on a pets collar to store pet and owner data including name, address, phone number, vet visits, medications, etc. and will be sold nationally at PETCO stores later this year. The runners up are better; but clearly harder to bring to a mass market. And these PetSafe folks appear to be trolling for intellectual property to exploit. Well done. My favorite is the RFID collar linked to a feeding dish. Each pet has it's own RFID tag. And the feeding dish with special diet is intelligent and only opens up when the specified pet is near (and during certain dietary volume/time window?). Even better, it could generate negative feedback when a pet with the wrong dietary requirements is also near. We've all seen how goofy pets can behave around food. [/curtis/critters] permanent link |
